CONTENTS ANALYSIS

What Type Of Magazine Is It?
This is a music magazine.

Who Is The Target Audience?
This magazine is a music magazine, but specifically aimed at women, hence the reason for all the information about fashion. The age genre of women could be argued, but for this magazine, the target audience is supposed to be mature young women, and middle aged women.

Are There Any Images?
This contents page only contains one image. The text is more based on the image, rather than the other way round; because the whole page is one image and the text is placed on the image. The main image, however is in the left corner of the page, and is an image of Ciara lying on the floor, with her legs elevated. The image seems to take up a lot of space on the page, which makes the actual information, look sparse.

Colour Schemes and House Style?
The main colours used, are plain colours, such as black, white, and grey. All the text falls into one of those categories of colours. The only other type of colour used, is that of the image, which has a varieties f browns, and golds and greys and black. Besides the fact that is, in fact, the only image, and takes up most of the page anyway, it is also the only other sense of colour, which allows it to become even more noticeable than the actual text on the page.

Background?
The background is black at the top of the page, and gradually fades into white at the bottom of the page.

Title?
The title is written in a bold white font. It is placed to the right of the page, which is unusual, because it is not the first object in sight. Also, it takes up three whole lines, for one word, which males it seems slightly disorganised and messy.

Text?
There are about 6 different fonts used on this page.
The contents is an individual font, the words ‘features’ and ‘fashion’ are the same font as each other, this is because they are both categories, which the pages fit into. The font used for this is quite calligraphic, and bold, but it is black.
There is one font for the titles of the different pages within the magazine; this is also the only font which is not black or white. This font is quite a bold font, similar to the title ‘contents’ font used. This font is quite small, and is a dark grey colour. Also all the ext, which is a title of a page, is written in upper case letters.
There is another font which is used to describe, but not in detail, what each page title is about. This font is definitely ‘Times New Roman’ or ‘Georgia’ font. This information gives a slight overview of what the page is about, in attempt to tempt the reader into reading the article. So far, it is the only serif font used.
There is another font used to specify who the author, of the page was. This font looks like a ‘Broadway’ font because some parts of the letters are thin, and some are thick. The font colour is black and slightly smaller in size than the rest of the text. Lastly, there is a separate font for the numbers.

Numbering?
The numbers do not, however, stand out or appear differently to the rest of the text on the page, besides the fact that it is a slightly different font used. The font used for the numbers, is very similar to that of the font used for the categories. It is black, and the same size as most of the rest of the small text. This makes the contents a bit weak because there is no differentiation of the numbers used.

What Type Of Magazine Is It?
This is also a music magazine.

Who Is The Target Audience?
The target audience for this magazine is aimed mainly at men, than anyone else. The bold, stereotypical ‘macho’ colours are being used here; red and blue. It is also more aimed at middle aged men, rather than men generally.

Are There Any Images?
Unlike the previous magazine contents page, there are two images on the contents page, the first of which is an image of the featured band in the magazine (The Courteeners). The image is not placed directly in the centre of the magazine but shows all the band members is an dominant position as the camera is looking up at them. The text box in the lower left corner of the image gives the reader more information on the band and shows us the page number of the article. Again the main colour if the text is black, which allows it to stand out to the reader. The second image is another artist, however instead of being an article it’s a small review at the bottom of the page. Here that artist is seen as laid back as he is using the pedestal to support himself; this also makes him seen more relaxed. The text is again black which works well with the grey colour of the text box. The main image, is quite large, and takes up over a quarter of the whole page.

Colour Schemes and House Style?
The contents page features all of the basic features, which the front page featured, allowing us to identify the intuition of the magazine.

Background?
The background is just one ‘off-white’ colour.
Title?
The contents of 'Q' magazine feature a bold title along the top centre of the page. This shows the audience what the page will contain and also shows the magazine's logo and issue number. The text 'contents' has been brought forward of the 'Q' logo as it is more important and needs to be recognised more. Also, if the audience have bought the magazine the awareness to what it is will already be there and therefore, the logo is not as relevant to the page as the title.

Text?
Featured down the left hand side of the contents page are the features, the main feature being in a larger font and also more bold that the ones below. The title of each feature is in bold, helping it stand out from the paragraph underneath.
At the left hand-side of the magazine, there is an index of what the magazine contains. The colours used are red, black and white. The bright red heading gives the impression of intriguing, ‘red hot’ information given straight to the readers. There is also a date in the far right side of the magazine on the masthead. The font used for the word ‘contents’, is also the font used for the feature categories. The only difference between them is that the word ‘contents’ is slightly larger, and is on a black background, instead of a red background. The same red used for the background for the feature categories, is the same red used for the numbers. There are about 3 different fonts used within this contents page.

Numbering?
There is nothing particularly unique about the number, they are the same font and size as the titles. The only differentiation is the colour of the text, which is red, in comparison to the other text, which is mainly black.
