Magazines in General
- Magazines in Britain are mainly published by a few dominant companies.
- Generally magazines have glossy, colour covers. They are published weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly or biannually.
- Audiences can be niche or mass.
- Most magazines have a specific target audience, often a particular age, gender, hobby, and interest or lifestyle choice.
Labelling a magazine's audience
When deciding a target audience, the magazines become preoccupied with trends, scrutinising what people think, eat, buy and worry about, then, categorising people with new labels.
Advertisers are becoming aware of the fact that, because we now live longer and remain healthier, there is a whole new sector of society emerging, which can be described as the 'young-minded older person.'
